Bob Klooster Memorial Invitational
Men's Class C,D&E
Charlevoix, Michigan

July 13-15, 2012

9th Annual Bob Klooster Memorial Tournament

Bob Klooster was the first Charlevoix inductee into the Michigan Amateur Softball Association (MASA) Hall of Fame in 1996. Leroy Buchanan (2006) and Meg (Fowler) Kitson (2009) are the only other Charlevoix representatives in the MASA Hall of Fame. Bob’s softball career spanned from 1949 through 1982, for a total of 33 years. The one-time pitcher and first baseman participated in five state championship tournaments during the era when it was quite an accomplishment to win a district and then a regional to get into the state finals. Bob was an outstanding pitcher who also hit for power and average. He started his career with the Charlevoix Knight Owls, then spent two years (1953-1954) as a medic with the army in Korea. After returning from the service in 1955, he played with the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce team out of Charlevoix. One highlight of his career was in 1963 when he pitched the L.J. Ormsbee Motors team from Cheboygan to a MASA Class C State Championship while finishing the year with a personal high of 48 wins and only 4 losses. In the 1960’s, he played with Bare Construction and Bremmeyr Bain, finishing his career in 1982 with Boss Engineering from Charlevoix. In 1981, Bob was inducted in the Cheboygan Sports Hall of Fame.
